Step on electronic ground

www.eluniversal.com.mx {Mexico} - 24 October 2008

Without departing from the dark essence that has characterized the music of the Finnish group The Rasmus, he wanted to print a label other than his new album, Black roses, and was introduced to the field of electronics, hand in hand with producer Desmond Child.

Desmond Child has worked with figures of the stature of Kiss, Aerosmith, INXS and Robbie Williams, and is responsible for hundreds of hits, so the group thought it had to work with him on his new album.

Inspired by the music of Depeche Mode proposal, bassist Eero Heinonen define their new sound as "dark and gloomy," but without losing the power of heavy metal guitars.

Meanwhile, the vocalist Laurin Ylönen shares, in an interview with El Universal, its experience in the recording studio with Desmond Child, and offers details of his new album.

"I think one of the most important things we learned with Child is that we must never rush.

"He advised us that we should have the exact feeling of what we are doing, if possible, and if not, then we could expect the time needed to obtain it," said Laurin.

"It is true that it takes more time in the studio (in Nashville, Tennessee), but Child taught us to be guided more by sentiment, and that was very chido at the time of recording, because we do great and best songs," adds vocalist.

Black roses, his seventh studio album, is a conceptual album.

Ylönen, Eero Heinonen, Pauli Rantasalmi and Aki Hakala (band members MëTaLeRa of) worked first in points and then he was put to music.

"Unlike some of our records, 'Black Roses' was recorded in a different way, first create the story, so each song is a chapter.

"Then we think about what kind of music we wanted for it.

"I think it was a more artistic to do it," says the singer.

Finnish visitors expected to return in 2009

Lauri Ylönen boasts a few words in Spanish: "Visiting Finnish."

The vocalist is increasingly close to Mexico, and the popularity enjoyed by the quartet confirms it.

A couple of years ago, the band gave a successful concert at the Auditorio Nacional, and together with Apocalyptica has become one of the most successful Finnish bands between the youth of our country.

"We've been a couple of times in the pyramids of Teotihuacan. We are close friends of the indigenous people of Mexico, and we have had close experiences with them.

"We've been in the Mexican version of the sauna, in that kind of igloo (Temascal), and tested a kind of milk they take from fungus," says Lauri Ylönen excited.

Although on this occasion his visit was only promotional, The Rasmus expected to return to Mexico next year to conduct a series of concerts in various cities.
