The Rasmus admits the flopped Hide from the Sun put the band under pressure after the successfull album Dead Letters. They got rid of the pressure by the help of Desmond Child. Bassist Eero Heinonen filmed the story of making of Black Roses to a home-made document film.
The Rasmus' seveth album Black Roses will be released on 24 September. At same time will be released a special edition of the album containing the film Making of Black Roses.
The film that tells the story of making the album a lot by interviews will go in TV 9 November in Finland, too.
Eero started to film the document by accident, initially he got the idea from video clips made for the web site of The Rasmus. Eero, who learned editing at the same time, tells the most challenging thing was to temp the band members to be filmed.
"The band didn't always realise, what could come out and guys were annoyed because of the filming at the same time they tried to talk about important things", tells Eero smiling.
"For a first try it succeed pretty well. Well it's not like a Hollywood-film but it tells like a diary what we felt like as we were recording the album."
The first play was organized at Andorra movie theater, Helsinki. The movie tells straightly, how much The Rasmus was in panic after their latest album, Hide from the Sun.
Hide from the Sun was sold only a third of Dead Letters' sales. After a few years of continuous touring the tired band was afraid they'd have to get a break.
"We were stuck with our imago. Now we feel more free than three years ago", tells Lauri Ylönen.
"Record sales are from satan, we still are afraid of 'em. It's hard for anybody whose last album was sold 1,5 million times and the new a half. But it had to happen, so we woke up to conquer the world again. Too good position makes a person lazy."
The pressure was gone little by little as the band was working with Desmond Child, known for his work for a several hardrock-bands.
"now our work is going unclear enough, and we're gonna see, what our fans will think of the new album. Myself I feel like we've started again."
"First we were afraid that Desmond Child would try to make us an American AOR-band, but it was in vain. Desmond is a creative, genius man and great to work with. He made us humble."
In september The Rasmus will be practising the new songs for live gigs and then starts touring. In Finland they will do a tour together with Mariko and Von Hertzen Brothers.
According to Lauri, it hasn't impacted in the work of the band that Pauli has moved to Singapore.
"Except for we decided to spend this Christmas in Singapore with the band. We don't have to practise the old songs, and now Pauli will be a few months in Finland."
"We have laughed that it takes the same time to fly to gig in Italy from Finland or Singapore. And we can phone in internet - though we haven't yet started to compose songs in Skype."
Eero will keep on filming something, when he has time.
"I dunno what, but maybe something apart from The Rasmus."
